Step 1: Proper Surface Preparation
Proper preparation is the most critical step for ensuring a strong, lasting bond. Flak Jacket PRO adheres best to clean, dry, and lightly scuffed surfaces.
Clean Thoroughly: Remove all dirt, grease, oil, rust, and loose paint or debris. Use a solvent based degreaser like acetone if needed and rinse completely.
Scuff Sand: Lightly sand the entire surface with 80-120 grit sandpaper or scuff brush to create a profile for the coating to grip.
Wipe Down: After sanding/scuffing, wipe the surface with acetone or Xylene to remove any remaining dust or contaminants.
Masking: Carefully mask off all areas you do not wish to coat, using higher-quality automotive or painters masking tape.
Overspray: If spraying, protect nearby surfaces (cab, wheels, garage items) from overspray using plastic sheeting.
Step 2: Mixing Flak Jacket PRO Components
Flak Jacket PRO is a two-component system that requires thorough mixing to activate. Always follow the precise mixing ratios for optimal performance.
Shake Part B: Vigorously shake or stir Part B (Base) for 2-3 minutes to ensure uniformity before mixing.
Measure Accurately: Pour Part A (Hardener) into the larger Part B (Base) metal can. The kit is pre-measured for a 3:1 ratio (8 oz Hardener into 24 oz Base).
Mix Thoroughly: Secure the lid and shake the combined mixture rigorously for at least 2-3 minutes.
Induction Time & Pot Life: Once mixed, the product is ready to apply. You have approximately 30 minutes before it begins to thicken and solidify. Be ready to spray immediately after mixing!
Step 3: Application Technique
Achieving a professional-looking, textured finish is simple with the right application technique. You can spray using the included gun or roll it on.
Proper PPE: Always wear a respirator, gloves, spray suit, and eye protection.
Air Compressor Setup: For best results, set your pressure regulator to 35-50 PSI. (Lower PSI = Rougher Texture; Higher PSI = Finer Texture).
Practice Spraying: Test your pattern on a piece of cardboard first to dial in your texture.
Even Coats: Apply in even, overlapping passes. 2-3 coats are recommended for maximum durability.
Flash Off Time: Allow 10-20 minutes between heavy coats to prevent runs.
Step 4: Curing and Final Touches
Once applied, Flak Jacket PRO begins to cure quickly. Proper curing ensures maximum hardness and durability.
Tack-Free Time: Typically tack-free in 30-45 minutes. Remove masking tape now while the liner is still slightly pliable.
Light Duty: Allow 12-24 hours before light use. Avoid water exposure during this time.
Full Cure: Maximum hardness and chemical resistance is achieved after 5-7 days. Avoid heavy hauling or car washes during this week.
Cleanup: Clean your spray gun and tools immediately after use with Acetone or Xylene. Once cured, the liner is permanent!
Disposal: Mixed material may be discarded after 1 hour of open exposure to air (it will be solid).
